NOCTURNE FOR THE KING OF SPAIN
Join The Four Nations Ensemble for "Nocturne for the Kings of Spain," the last in a series of three evenings of Baroque music celebrating the Clark’s exhibition Splendor, Myth, and Vision: Nudes from the Prado.
Elizabeth Farnese and King Phillip V engaged the castrato Farinelli, Europe's most celebrated singer, to perform four arias each night at court in an early music therapy effort to conquer the severe depression that afflicted Phillip. The royal couple's successors, Barbara of Portugal and King Ferdinand VI were passionate music lovers, bringing Domenico Scarlatti to court and turning Madrid into a center of opera and chamber music.
This program looks at impressions of Spain from Spain that even today define Iberia. The musicians will perform works by Couperin, Scarlatti, Soler, Hasse, and Boccherini.
Preceding the concert from 6:00–7:30 pm, ticketholders enjoy private access to Splendor, Myth, and Vision. Tapas and drinks are available for purchase in Café 7 beginning at 6 pm.
